Representation of X-Factor Contestants

Michael Mariouli X Factor contestant of 2014 is one of the more extreme characters on the show. The first thing people notice is his dress sense which is flashy, excessive and some might say over the top. The shiny, open top and the gloves are clothes people wouldn't necessarily wear out in the streets. This can attract an audience because they think he is different and abnormal. His extravagant appearance which includes make-up, tan and even his body language portrays connotations of showmanship and how he caves attention. The producers of the show have chose to portray him in this way because of his attitude. His dress sense could also represent his personality and his acting on stage. The music in the when he walks on stage is popular, dance music which people can relate to. Music that people want to move to encourages them to connect with the character on the screen. Shots of the audience's reaction are also shown to show how the audience watching the show on their TV should react. People will subconsciously mimic this reaction as they will join the crowd. The lack of backstory and family that come with Marouli creates an comical atmosphere; he is a lone ranger. The fast-paced nature of the music can also portray how quick the audition is over. It is a very short audition and the straight cuts and jump cuts could represent the level of importance that this character is to the show.
